The latest list of the top 10 most stolen vehicles for 2010 was recently released from The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).
The most stolen vehicles in the nation were:
- 1994 Honda Accord
- 1995 Honda Civic
- 1991 Toyota Camry
- 1999 Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size)
- 1997 Ford F150 Series/Pickup
- 2004 Dodge Ram
- 2000 Ddoge Caravan
- 1994 Acura
- 2002 Ford Explorer
- 1999 Ford Taurus
It is interesting to note that the actual rate of vehicle thefts is declining. If you look at the list, you will notice that the cars are older. While older cars are more valuable for their parts, improvement in technology including anti theft systems and vehicle recover systems has lead to a reduction in newer cars being stolen.
Remeber that in order to have your car protected by your car insurance for theft, you need to have 'Comprehensive' coverage, also known as 'Comp' or 'Other Than Collission' coverage. If your vehicle has an alarm system, VIN glass etching, vehicle recovery systems such as OnStar or Lojack, please let your local Long Island independent insurance agent know about this so that you can receive applicable discounts.
